Africa is a goldmine of resources

Africa renewable energy transformation

With this mass of resources, Africa would be able to independently source its energy rather than rely on other countries to do so. New and existing renewable energy projects push Africa in a sustainable direction while encouraging economic development.

Projects in Africa

This is a model for future projects in several ways, in particular, it demonstrates that Africa is an attractive destination for private sector investment in energy. Africa has an abundance of sunshine. It makes sense for African countries to begin exploring ways of exploiting their natural energy sources. The projects that are already in operation give hope to Africans who do not have access to electricity. Solar power projects in Africa provide a sustainable alternative to conventional hydroelectric power. Obviously, Africa needs ample electricity to power the economy to the next level.

Street lighting

Uganda - Kampala

The project aims to replace the existing stock of grid based street lighting with solar and expand the network to cover unserved areas of the city. Currently only 8% of the streets in Kampala have street lights posing significant challenges in terms of safety particularly for women and children who often walk to and from their places of work.

Lower Operation Cost : It is less expensive to operate a solar powered street light than a traditional street light.

Compact Design : Our design and technology implementation have been driven by our desire to eliminate the need for bulky external battery boxes and external solar panels and achieve All in One Solar Powered Street Light.

Reduced Damage/Theft : By locating directly on the light fixture and placing the battery within, the risk of damage, theft or tampering is greatly reduced. There are no wires in the street pole, which means that the wire itself (which exists in regular street lights) can't be stolen and sold for scrap.

Solar power plant

Kenya

Actually, Kenya is the world leader in the number of solar power systems installed per capita. More Kenyans are now turning to solar power every year rather than make connections to the country’s electric grid. This is due to a number of challenges that one faces when connecting to the national grid the first and foremost being costs of such a setup and also the high cost of buying power from Kenya Power.

Solar power plants should produce as much power as possible. Thousands of reflectors are in operating full swing all over the world. In a first-class plant, the number of reflectors even reaches well into the six-digit range. The expansive power plants are often located near to the equator and are therefore often far away from civilization. This makes it clear as daylight that all components installed in the plant must work free of faults for long periods of time. Service work for remote regions cannot be organized and performed in a hurry.

Solar mini grids

Uganda (rural villages/small scale farmers)

Approximately half a billion people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity. Many of these families live in remote areas. If they want to wait to gain access to local or national electricity grids, it may take many years to happen. However, solar power projects in Africa are making it easier for people to access the benefits of off-grid electricity to improve their everyday lives. The installation of power plants is less financial and labor-intensive than hydroelectric projects.

Solar power projects

Gambia (rural villages)

The government open tendering procedures for off-grid solar power plants. The implementation of these projects will happen in different parts of the country. Independent Power Producers are encouraged to submit proposals for this large scale project. It will be included in the country’s nationwide electrification policy. This strategy aims at decentralizing electrification. Consequently, it will make it easier for rural communities to get connected to the national power network. This move will encourage the adoption of renewable energy.

Solar power projects

Mozambique (rural areas)

Mozambique has a target of providing energy access to all its citizens by 2030 and the project is in response to growing demand for electricity in Niassa province. Mozambique has significant and largely unexploited solar potential that offers many possibilities for grid-connected and rural electrification projects. On-grid solar holds the promise of ever cheaper electricity thanks to tremendous cost reductions and improved access to finance, which has led to new record-breaking low tariffs presented by bidders. However, despite this unique value proposal of on-grid solar only a handful of plants over 5MW have been realised in sub-Saharan Africa.

Mini power grid projects

Zimbabwe (rural communities)

Drinking water from the sun

Solar energy around the world: From mini-grids to solar cities. Solar energy is now the cheapest energy source in the world. Rural villages, community initiatives and big cities are all choosing to generate energy form the sun, in all sorts of diverse ways.

The village operates a solar pump with a connected water tank. The well is far away from the village, and the water used to have to be piped to the village with a diesel pump. But this was often broken or there was not enough fuel. Since 2014, a solar pump has been supplying water to the 6,000 inhabitants, many of whom also need the water for their fields.
